Hyperbat is a joint venture between Williams Advanced Engineering and Unipart Manufacturing Group that was formed with a mission to manufacture innovative high voltage battery solutions, optimised for high-performance and specialist applications.

Hyperbat is the UK’s largest independent vehicle battery manufacturer and aims to become the UK leader in high voltage battery systems, supporting UK plc by growing the UK battery technology supply chain. Hyperbat’s UK battery manufacturing plans to bridge the gap between low volume prototype build and high volume hybrid and electric vehicle production.

The Facility

Industry 4.0

Technologies Deployed

The facility will be approximately 2,300 m2 with additional space for future growth and will open in 2019.

The factory is based on the site of a former exhaust plant and reintroduces manufacturing to the area, with an environmentally sustainable future.

Capacity of the factory will be approximately 10,000 packs per year.

Showcasing innovation and high-value manufacturing the facility will include light- guide technology, “cobots” and multiple welding technologies, to ensure productivity, traceability and quality assurance.

Delivering TS16949 battery standard from the outset.

Helping to create the ‘next generation’ workforce, Hyperbat will create high value jobs and will be the largest independent vehicle battery manufacturer in the UK.

Aston Martin Rapide E

  • First programme for Hyperbat will be the Aston Martin Rapide E. Setting the benchmark for performance Battery Electric Vehicles.
  • Battery pack developed by Williams Advanced Engineering.
  • 450 kW provided at low states of charge to maintain consistent vehicle performance.
  • 800 VDC battery with 400 VDC compatible HV vehicle charging architecture. Total stored energy of 65 kWh.
  • Optimised mass layout of pack to maintain base vehicle mass distribution and dynamic feel, maximising performance and packaging.
  • Hybrid material casing utilising carbon fibre, Kevlar and aluminium.
